We often go into the same pose the same way every time without thinking about it. The pose is easy for us – we’ve done it hundreds of times – and our body flows to it effortlessly. When I feel this in my own body, I think of the quote by Shunryo Suzuki-Roshi, "In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's there are few." Get into these poses anew each time. If you need help, move into the pose a new way, go more deeply, find a new arm position, anything that helps you feel the beginner’s mind. Find what the pose has to teach you this time. Assume there is something new to learn. What does that do for the rest of your life? Are there things that you do that could use some refreshment?
