(My apologies for being a little late this month -- I was set back a bit with the stomach flu.) Yoga pose of the month: Let's study Jathara Parivartanasana (Stomach Turning Pose) this month. Take this month to spend time in this pose, teach it to your students, and bring it into your practice. Here are some ideas for you to consider:
- Are you engaged in this pose? What is your core doing? Your legs?
- Play with your position in the pose. Can you get more of the twist in parts of your spine that you cannot reach?
- Are your arms active? What happens when you make them more active?
- Play with having your legs at different levels of bent vs. straight. How does your pose change?
- Can you deepen your twist? What do you need to do to make the pose deeper?
If you are a teacher, challenge yourself to teach this pose in each class this month. Add this component: Can you find something new to teach (and learn)?
