Malasana (Garland's Pose)
Yoga pose of the month: Let's study Malasana (Garland Pose) this month. Take this month to spend time in this pose, teach it to your students, bring it into your practice, and bring on a deeper sense of reflection on it. Here are some ideas for you to consider:
- Can you feel where your restrictions are in this pose? Sometimes it is obvious and other times not. Check in with the ankles, knees, and hips.
- Can you balance the contraction in the groins, holding the legs to the body, with the release to stretch the groins to allow the body to move through the legs?
- As you deepen the fold in the pose, are you moving from the hip joint or rounding the back? Deepening the pose comes from the hip joint.
- Try the variations in the video from this month. Do any of them help you move more deeply into the pose?
