Yoga pose of the month: Let's study Vajrasana I (Thunderbolt Pose) this month. Take this month to spend time in this pose, teach it to your students, and bring it into your practice. Here are some ideas for you to consider:
- What are your feet doing? Are they pointing straight back? Angled out do the side? Where are your heals? Straight up or out to the side?
- Where are you sitting on your heals? Are your heals under your sitbones? Next to your sitbones? What position allows you to align the rest of your body most effectlively?
- Is your pelvis tipped back or forward? In my opinion, in the photo, my pelvis is tipped too far forward. Since my tendency is to really arch my lower back, this actually felt quite rounded to me! Play with your position and see if you can find an even more balanced center for yourself.
If you are a teacher, challenge yourself to teach this pose in each class this month. Add this component: Can you find something new to teach (and learn)?
