I keep a practice journal and I write in it when I have a new insight, a challenge, or a breakthrough. It is such fun to go back and read about where I have been to see all the ways I have changed. (Especially helpful when I feel my practice is taking me no where! And, yes, that does happen to me, too.)
Periodically, I write down the basic information about my practice such as: Poses I love, poses I avoid, challenges in my body. I then postulate why I am loving or not loving a pose or what my body is telling me with my challenges. There is always a reason. Sometimes I get it then. More often though, my insight comes from hindsight, reading back through my journal. Keep a journal! It will deepen the benefits from your practice.
Hi Laura,
I'm enjoying your blogs. I used to keep a practice journal when I was doing my teacher training which ended last april. Not sure what became of that tendency, but it just sort of petered out. Now I am determined to start the habit again. Thanks!
